| Foreign aid training represents an integral part to China’s foreign assistance efforts. And interpretation still serves as an important tool in organizing such training. This report is based on an E-C simultaneous interpretation for a foreign aid training project conducted by the author during her internship in the National Academy of Forestry and Grassland Administration. From the perspective of an interpreter’s dual role, the cases are analyzed under the guidance of Relevance Theory. This paper consists of five parts. The first part includes the task description, which introduces the background, requirements and challenges of the task. The second part describes the interpreting process, including pre-task preparation,on-site interpreting and post-interpreting evaluation. The third part is theoretical framework, introducing relevance theory and its application in interpretation.Guided by Relevance Theory, the fourth part explores how to deal with difficulties such as information losses, redundant information, complex sentence patterns, etc and analyzes the application of interpreting strategies such as inference, anticipation, compression and so on from following three aspects: inferring the communicative intention of the speakers, reducing processing efforts for the interpreter and establishing optimal relevance for the listeners. The fifth part summarizes the interpreting experience to provide insights for future study and practice. |
