Qigang Chen is one of the leading contemporary composers who have developed and refined an individual style of composition by incorporating traditional Chinese culture and contemporary compositional techniques.‘La joie de la souffrance’ is a violin concerto work by Mr.Chen that was co-commissioned by the Beijing Music Festival,Melbourne Symphony Orchestra,Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition,Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse,and New Jersey Symphony in the 2017.This paper is divided into three chapters: The first chapter presents an analytical study of the pitch material and the vertical chord structure in the theme.The second chapter is the timbral and acousmatic analysis,which discusses the ways of treating timbre in vertical textures and structures through the examples of musical score,and identifies the timbral color-enhancing techniques in the orchestration.The third chapter illustrates the form of the composition,which expounds the characteristics of the overall and internal structure.The concluding section summarizes the above analysis and discussion. |
