Abstract/Summary:
The Spring Festival is a traditional large-scale folk festival in China.During the Spring Festival every year, tens of thousands of travelers are looking forward to reuniting with their families. However, the new coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan at the end of 2019 broke the people’s dream of reunion. For a time, the trend of the epidemic affected the hearts of billions of people all over the country. However, the medical conditions in the vast rural areas are far less than those in cities and towns, and they are also key areas for epidemic prevention and control.Strict epidemic prevention and control policies have affected most traditional Chinese New Year festivals, especially for the Spring Festival, which attaches importance to human relations and pays attention to reunion.Through participatory observation and semi-structured interviews, after interviewing villagers of different ages, occupations, genders and habitual residences in Guozhuang village, the author found that they would adjust and integrate the conflict between traditional Spring Festival customs and epidemic prevention and control in different ways, for example,in order to reunite with their families during the Spring Festival, they would advance the "Spring Festival travel rush" time;Turn the customs such as offline New Year greetings and visiting relatives into online ones one by one;For some customs that cannot be carried out online, such as reuniting with relatives and friends, villagers will choose to make up for them in the future. From Guozhuang village people’s new ways to treat the Spring Festival customs under the epidemic situation,we can find that the changes of customs are not only guided by national policies, but also constantly adjusted in the new regulations in the face of emergencies.
