Human beings use the method of comparison to understand and study things.Linguistic research also uses comparison to describe and analyze languages and find out the commonalities and personalities among different languages.Comparison is one of the basic methods.Based on the Uyghur Chinese Dictionary and Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th edition),this paper selects time words with fuzziness in modern Chinese and modern Uyghur.Based on the contrastive analysis theory and fuzzy theory, this paper studies time words of the two languages from the perspectives of category of meaning and characteristics, etymology, word formation, syntax, semantic and pragmatic features.Find out the similarities and differences between the time systems of the two languages. This paper discusses the vague time words in Chinese and Uygur as the object of discussion, which is divided into four chapters: the introduction includes the research status, research object, meaning and theoretical basis of the time words in Chinese and Uygur, and defines the vague time words as the research object of this paper: the words that can express the concept and meaning of time with unclear extensional boundaries, including simple words, compound words and phrases. The first chapter is about the classification and characteristics of time words.According to the semantics, time words are divided into precise time words and vague time words, and vague time words are divided into four types according to the semantic difference. Finally, the characteristics of vague time words are summarized by examples. The second chapter discusses the comparison of the sources of Chinese and Uyghur vague time words. Both Chinese and Uyghur are mainly derived from solar activities related to the change of the position of the sun,the light and dark of the sky,the change of the sun’s shadow, the laws of human production and life, the activities of animal biological clocks and the calendar. The third chapter mainly discusses the word formation and usage of vague time words in Chinese and Uyghur. The two languages have obvious differences in word formation, and the usage is basically the same.In word formation, there are three types: associative type, biased positive type and subject-predicate type, which can serve as the syntactic components of subject, predicate, object, definite, form and complement in sentences. The fourth chapter discusses the semantic features and pragmatic effects of ChineseUyghur vague time words. Both languages have boundary ambiguity and central clarity and duality, but the clarity of semantic center is not one-to-one correspondence. The ambiguity of numerals in Chinese is richer than that in Uyghur. In terms of pragmatic effect, both of them have three characteristics: enhancing the vividness of language expression, enhancing the flexibility of language expression and enhancing the efficiency of language expression. The conclusion mainly makes a brief summary of the research content of the article and draws a conclusion.By comparing the similarities and differences between Chinese and Uyghur vague time words,we can not only enrich the theory of contrastive linguistics, but also find out the similarities and differences between Chinese and Uyghur vague time words, which can not only promote the study of Chinese and Uyghur time words. It can also provide reference for the development of contrastive lexicology, bilingual teaching, translation studies and lexicology.
