| During the period of the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China,Guangfu opera and ballads were highly regional and colloquial, and their words and expressions were closely related to the actual conditions of the society at that time. The engraved and printed editions of these literary works obtained from the publishing houses of the time were relatively complete and accurately preserved the real appearance of the Cantonese dialect at that time, which has high linguistic research value. On one hand, there are many difficult-to-identify folk characters in Guangfu opera and ballads, some of which are quite different from Mandarin or other dialects and have certain Cantonese dialectal characteristics, which have not been systematically sorted out by previous authors. On the other hand, there are many cases of polymorphic word conditions in Guangfu opera and ballads, which have formed a certain scale. There are different characters used for the same word, which are either borrowed from the Mandarin or created from the local dialects. The current major dictionaries generally only include typical character forms, and there is no systematic discussion of polymorphic word conditions in Guangfu opera and ballads.Taking the words of the Cantonese dialect as found in the literature of "Guangzhou Grand Ceremony ·opera and ballad " as the research object, the use of the Cantonese dialect characters in Guangfu opera and ballads in the period of the late Qing and early Republic of China is analyzed and discussed through the method of dialect word identification, the combination of analysis and induction, and the combination of common time and calendar time. The folk characters seen in Guangfu opera and ballad literature can be divided into six categories: simplified, additive, replaced radical, varied writing style, cursive script and structurally shifted. The important characteristics of the folk characters in this literature are borrowing phonetic loan characters, adding the "kou" symbol and new phonetic characters. The type of folk characters can be analyzed to present the overall appearance of these folk characters.Examples of the polymorphic condition of a word, their meaning, pronunciation, ways and causes of shape change(polymorphism)are explained one by one. There are four main types of abnormal shapes, one is to add(change)notes on the basis of the borrowed character, second is to increase(change)meaning, third is to add the "kou" symbol, and the fourth is to change both the meaning and the notes. |
