In this paper,5144 pieces of Huang Group Oracle Bone are selected as basic research sources.Among them,49486 Oracle Bone inscriptions are selected and 8234 of them are composite graphs.All Oracle Bone inscriptions are split based on graphic shape and meaning.After that,the number,function,and layer of components of composite graphs are analyzed.This paper also statistically analyzes phonograms and syssemantographs.Additionally,the frequencies of the composite graphs of Huang Group Oracle Bone inscriptions are graded.Based on the comparative,quantitative,and qualitative studies,this paper finds: First,the composite graphs have been developed during the period of Huang Group Oracle Bone.Second,the number of components of a composite graph is between 2 and 5,while the number of characteristics is inversely proportional to the number of its component.Each component participates in the composition of a small number of characters.For the functionality of components,configurational components dominate.This means the characters have robust pictorial characteristics.A certain number of phonetic components indicates that Chinese characters have a tendency to be phonographic.For the layer of components,most are planar structures.The rest are hierarchical structures,mainly two-layers structures.Third,for the types of structure,syssemantograph dominates and the number of phonograms increases.The internal construction of characters is more complex.The number of composite graphs is increasing,while non-composite characters is the opposite.Fourth,for the composite graphs of Huang Group Oracle Bone inscriptions,there are some rarely-used characters while few frequently-used characters.Compared to previous characters,the number and portion of the composite graphs of Huang Group Oracle Bone inscriptions are larger.Configurational components are generally replaced by semantic components while the number of phonetic components is increasing.These indicate that the configuration model is optimized and represent the development track of characters from noncomposite to composite.
