| In recent years,with China’s increasing national strength and international status,China has become more active in cultural exchanges,as evidenced by the increasing number of foreign students studying in China.Regarding the policy for educating international students in China,the focus has shifted from language teaching to cultural teaching.Correspondingly,the cultural activities for international students have become increasingly important.Cultural activities for international students are an essential form of education,promoting the internationalization of universities and helping students develop high-quality skills.However,the development of international student cultural activities in China is hampered by problems such as incomplete activity design,unclear objectives,a lack of process monitoring,and unsatisfactory results.This paper takes the international student cultural activities conducted by East China Normal University in 2021 as the research object from the perspective of communication studies.It analyses the five elements of communication in cultural activities,namely,communicators,communication content,communication channels,communication audiences,and communication effects,based on relevant communication theories.With the aim of achieving effective communication,this paper summarizes the successful experiences of outstanding activities,analyzes the factors affecting the communication process,explores the reasons for the deviation between communication effects and activity objectives,and proposes corresponding strategies.Through a questionnaire survey of international students who participated in cultural activities at East China Normal University in 2021,this paper finds that nearly 80% of international students like to participate in cultural activities,but only61% are satisfied with the activities they have participated in(meeting their psychological expectations).Based on the analysis of the questionnaire,the paper summarizes the factors that influence international students’ evaluations of the activities and proposes suggestions for improvement.Based on the questionnaire survey of international students and relevant communication theories,this paper proposes ideas that can enhance the communication effects of cultural activities,including increasing the enthusiasm of teachers to participate in activities,strengthening the role of counselors in value guidance,designing activities with comprehensive planning,improving the pre-planning,mid-term monitoring,and post-feedback follow-up of activities,using public opinion monitoring as a reference to avoid improper cultural activity design,paying attention to opinion leaders among international students,focusing on interpersonal communication,creating excellent brand activities that unite internally and radiate externally,enhancing cultural confidence,providing "dual-sided tips" for content,innovating activity forms,and using international students’ "self-reports" to dispel foreign media rumors by going to primary and secondary schools and government agencies.This paper also suggests utilizing foreign social media and short video platforms,such as Instagram and Tik Tok,to promote and showcase cultural activities. |
