Carl Maria von Weber(1789-1826)was born in Odin,a small city in the principality of Holstein,Germany.He is a pianist,composer,and music critic.This "Variations on Joseph’s Theme" was created in 1812 and represents Weber’s highest achievement in the genre of variations.His pursuit of dazzling techniques and brilliant sound effects was in line with the public aesthetic of the time,and he also played a rich singing role in this work.The singing nature of this work is directly derived from the Romance A peine au sortir in the Méhul’s opera "Joseph" as its theme.In the following variations,Weber maximized the singing nature of the theme,showing the opera color.At the same time,its brilliant showcasing paragraphs balance musicality and entertainment,and the rich and rich sound effects add unparalleled drama to the music.These are all Weber’s explorations of the piano as a musical instrument.His exploration of the piano also opened a new door for Romantic musicians in the 19 th century.His piano works had a huge impact on later Romantic musicians such as Liszt and Schumann,and were the precursor of early Romanticism.This article is divided into four chapters.In the introduction of Chapter 1,the author elaborates on the research background and significance,and summarizes the current research status at home and abroad.The second chapter introduces the historical background of the development of piano music in the 19 th century,briefly introduces the travel period in Weber’s life,and the historical significance of the "Joseph Theme Variations" created during this period.The third chapter starts with the techniques of variation,musical structure,tonality and harmony,and extracts the distinct features of the work,namely the opera color,the individual showcasing techniques in early romanticism,and the dramatic sound effects.Chapter 4 is the interpretation of performance.In the first part,a macro analysis was conducted on the overall performance of the music based on the layout of the work,and then focused on Variations 7.From a micro perspective,a specific analysis was conducted on how to combine the layout within Variations to control the interpretation of the music.In the second part of Chapter 4,analyze how to express singing,technique,and drama from the perspective of performance interpretation.
