This thesis is a report on the Chinese translation of History of Psychology(Excerpt),which is part of a translation project on the teenager-targeted popular science series Encyclopedia of Psychology. The project, consisting of a total of six volumes,is commissioned by the Posts & Telecom Press. This report is based on chapters 11-14 in Volume 1 of History of Psychology. In consideration of the theme of the book, the publisher’s requirements, and readership,I strive to make the translation both informative and readable. This thesis first introduces the chapters being translated, followed by discussing the communicative translation theory, and then applies the theory to the translation practice at the lexical, syntactic, and textual level based on abundant examples from these chapters.Different translation methods are adopted to solve different translation problems, realizing the fusion of theory and practice. The report,to a degree, can provide some food for thought on popular science translation.Additionally, since the text being translated is also academic, containing a large number of professional terms, the translation methods summarized in this thesis may also shed some light on academic text translation. |
