Exploring The Narrative Features Of Suspenseful Online Micro-Short Drama In Vertical Screen Mode

With the advancement of mobile internet technology,the vertical screen has become a popular mode of online video production and dissemination.As an emerging category of online film and television content,web micro-drama inherits the basic production method of traditional film and television episodes,but at the same time incorporates the advantages of the online short video,becoming a new trend in the development of the online film and television industry.In terms of narrative,online micro-dramas in the vertical screen mode present distinctive genre and pattern characteristics.To better explore its narrative form and development,and to provide theoretical references for the industry’s creation,this paper will start from one of the important subjects of online micro-short dramas —— suspense online micro-short dramas and study its narrative characteristics in depth from the perspective of product creation and audience experience.The paper is divided into five chapters and will use a combination of documentary research,practical creation,and case study methods to conduct the research,taking the author’s relevant practical work,Red Eyes,a suspenseful online micro-drama,as an example,to combine theory and practice in depth.Firstly,in the introductory part of Chapter 1,the background and significance of the study,literature review,research methods and innovative ideas,and other basic information are introduced as a whole.In Chapter 2,the concept definition,production motives,and cultural expressions of the suspenseful online micro-drama are analyzed.Then,in Chapter 3,we explore the narrative characteristics of the suspenseful web series in terms of compressing the narrative time,reshaping the narrative space,and amplifying the human expression from the perspective of content production and creation.In Chapter 4,we shift the perspective to explore the psychological satisfaction brought by the sense of excitement,the deep interactive experience of immersion,and the convergence of peers brought by circling in the suspenseful web series from the perspective of audience experience.Finally,in Chapter 5,the real-life limitations of the narrative development of suspenseful online micro-dramas are examined,and breakthrough strategies are provided from two aspects: "internal exploration" and "external breakthrough".
