Tian Han(1898-1968)is a revolutionary and pioneer of modern Chinese drama, and his drama creation has the dual research value of literature and history.Tian Han draws on the strengths of foreign drama and is one of the earliest translators of Irish literature in China and his early drama creations show many characteristics of Irish drama. However,at present, the academic circles at home and abroad have not paid enough attention to relevant topics, and the discussion on the relationship between Tian Han’s drama and Irish drama from the perspective of comparative literature is relatively lacking, and relevant research needs to be deepened and enriched. This dissertation focuses on Tian Han’s acceptance of Irish drama, and explores the enlightenment path of Tian Han’s acceptance of Irish drama by means of textual research, close reading and comparative research. And then discuss the local reconstruction of cultural awareness and Tian Han’s cultural attitude towards foreign literature. The text consists of four chapters:The first chapter is the introduction. This chapter briefly introduces the basic situation of Tian Han’s drama and Irish drama in the early 20 th century and sorts out the research status and problems at home and abroad. The basic ideas, design framework, research methods and research significance of this paper are explained at the same time. The second chapter sorts out Tian Han’s enlightenment path and translation achievements in accepting Irish drama.Around the 1920 s,Tian Han’s study abroad in Japan became an important opportunity for him to get in touch with Irish drama. He recorded relevant activities in his diary and letters. At the same time, under the combined effect of drama aesthetics and cultural appeal,Tian Han translated Irish dramas such as Riders to the sea and Salome and became an important promoter of Irish drama in China, which promoted the introduction and dissemination of Irish drama in China in the early 20 th century. The third chapter focuses on the Irish traces in Tian Han’s early plays.Combined with related works, this chapter examines the Irish characteristics in Tian Han’s early dramas, analyzes Tian Han’s early dramas’ reference to Irish dramas in terms of the theme of “spiritual conflict”,the use of Symbolism and the shaping of wandering characters, and discusses the artistic effects and cultural connotations it shows. The fourth chapter discusses the local reconstruction of Tian Han’s early drama based on cross-cultural awareness. In the process of absorbing the nutrients of Irish drama,Tian Han adhered to the core foundation of traditional culture, endowed his creation with nationalized poetry, and demonstrated the traditional Chinese philosophy of “Moderate”.At the same time,he insisted on addressing the current shortcomings in the drama and created a new paradigm of modern national drama. To sum up,Tian Han’s acceptance of Irish drama during his stay in Japan in the 1920 s is a sign of his attempts to reform modern Chinese drama.Irish drama left a deep impression on Tian Han’s early drama, and the two have many things in common trait. As the founder of modern Chinese drama,Tian Han insisted on local reconstruction based on cross-cultural awareness in the process of accepting Irish drama. In his creation,he showed the political awareness of “from art without restraint” and formed his personal style as a drama reformer. And its characteristics, its dramatic spirit of “for my use” and the creative consciousness of“same frequency with the times” have important reference significance for the communication of Chinese and Western literature.
