A Report On C-E Translation Of Campus News From The Perspective Of Translation Variation Theory

News translation has become an important channel for countries to grasp current events with the acceleration of global informationalization.In order to promote school construction and accelerate the speed in line with the world,Southwest University of Science and Technology(SWUST)entrusted the School of Foreign Languages and Culture to build the exclusive English news platform which opened a window for foreign scholars to learn about SWUST.The topics of selected news materials cover enrollment and employment,academic exchanges,joint construction of school-enterprises,and campus activities.Perfecting campus news translation can not only attract more excellent intellectuals to visit,but also help universities at home and abroad to cooperate,thus promoting the diversification and scientization of teaching work.Like ordinary news,campus news is distinguished as timeliness,accuracy,and objectiveness.Considering the linguistic and logical disparities between Chinese and English,the target texts are required to achieve the communicative purpose from the perspectives of the readers.At present,few researchers have conducted a comprehensive analysis of campus news translation from the perspective of Translation Variation Theory.This report focuses on exploring the features and translation methods of news headlines,four-character idioms,culture-loaded words and run-on sentences.Under the guidance of Huang Zhonglian’s Translation Variation Theory,the translator reproduces the original text through five translation techniques — amplification,omission,edition,narration,and rewriting.Through this translation practice,the author not only realizes the significance of news translation for publicity,but also further familiarizes the application of the Translation Variation Theory.It is hoped that this translation report can provide some reference value for news translation research and practices.
