Due to the rapid development of science and technology in the new era,news for science and technology has increasingly become an important object of people’s daily life.Every day,people receive news for science and technology from the whole world.Readers want to know more and more information as soon as possible.Under this situation,the domestic scholar Professor Huang Zhonglian published the book of Translation Variation Theory in 2002.This theory points that the translator can adopt seven translation variation strategies to make appropriate adjustments to the source text in order to meet special needs of readers.As the domestic translation theory,it has obtained more and more focus by translation scholars at home and abroad since it was put forward.This source text of this task is based on news reports about the Ebola wars.This translation task mainly faces two difficulties,one is to improve the readability of the original,and the other is the information selection based on readers’ needs.Based on above difficulties,the translator uses addition,edition,and adaptation strategies to solve the low readability of the original text,meeting readers’ needs and reading habits.And the translator uses deletion,condensation,narration and combination strategies to make information selection,which make the translation conciseness,semantic coherence,and clear logic.This translation task makes a close connection between theory and practice and aims to explore translation strategies and methods used in translation of news for science and technology guided by Translation Variation Theory. |
