A Study On The Overseas Dissemination Of Ku Hongming ’s English Translation Of The Analects

The external communication of Chinese culture has always been an important research topic and practical activity in the field of cross-cultural communication.The inheritance and development of a series of mainstream cultural classics represented by the Analects of Confucius have long attracted much attention.Since the " Belt and Road " initiative was put forward,the Chinese culture represented by traditional classics has gone abroad and gone to the world,which is one of the specific manifestations of cross-cultural communication.How to promote the innovation and development of Chinese culture to enhance the ability of overseas communication,how to find the correct and appropriate way of communication,how to effectively control the effect and influence of cultural communication and other related topics and discussions have been widely valued by scholars at home and abroad.The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence and problems of Gu Hongming ’s English translation of " The Analects " and to provide an effective development path and enlightenment for the overseas dissemination of Chinese culture.First of all,this paper uses the content analysis method to analyze the elements of the overseas dissemination of Ku Hongming ’s ’ Analects ’ : from the historical and cultural background of Ku Hongming himself and his Chinese and Western cultural views.This paper attempts to make a holistic interpretation of the cultural content of the translation from two aspects : the translation of the original text and the core concept words in Gu Hongming’s translation of " The Analects of Confucius " and the quotation of western cultural celebrities.According to the analysis of the publication and reprint of Ku Hongming ’s ’Analects ’,it can be seen that the circulation of this translation in Europe and the United States is still large.According to the four psychological elements of the audience ’s psychological tendency,this paper discusses how Ku Hongming ’s translation of The Analects meets the cultural needs of many European and American readers.From the perspective of cultural communication and development,this paper examines the value of Gu Hongming ’s translation of the Analects overseas.Secondly,from the perspective of the translator ’s cultural identity,translation purpose,translation strategy and translation characteristics,this paper analyzes the advantages of Gu Hongming ’s ’ Analects ’ translation in overseas communication and explores its cross-cultural communication ability.Finally,through the inductive research method,this paper analyzes the current situation,influence,existing problems and causes of the overseas dissemination of Ku Hongming ’s translation of ’ The Analects of Confucius ’,and draws the following three conclusions :1.The overseas dissemination of Ku Hongming ’s translation of the Analects of Confucius has promoted the study of Confucianism in the West,but it has also caused the adverse effects of the " Westernization " of Confucianism.Therefore,it is necessary to explore and sort out the modern value of traditional culture and promote the times of national culture.2.The overseas dissemination of Ku Hongming ’s translation of " The Analects of Confucius" has promoted the exchange and relationship between Chinese and Western cultures,but also exposed the shortcomings of the cultural interaction mechanism between China and the West.We should appropriately change the concept of communication and build a stable communication mechanism with cultural self-confidence.3.Ku Hongming ’s translation of the Analects has achieved considerable results in cultural communication,but there are also weaknesses in the solidification of communication mode and the lack of communication talents,which restrict the promotion of cultural communication influence.Therefore,we should strengthen the cultivation of high-quality and high-level translation talents and broaden the scope of communication subjects.Improve the auxiliary function of modern technology and create the digitization of cultural resources;enrich the art form of cultural communication and enhance the interest of culture;improve the construction of cultural industry system,develop and enhance the international appeal of cultural brands.Of course,there are indeed shortcomings in this study.Although the value of Gu Hongming’s translation of the Analects of Confucius and its enlightenment to the overseas dissemination of Chinese culture are discussed as a whole,it still fails to study more deep-seated problems in this field.At the same time,the research methods are relatively simple,which is also the focus of future research.It is hoped that future researchers can use more abundant research methods and research theories to guide the practice of cross-cultural communication and contribute to the effective improvement of the overseas dissemination of Chinese culture.
