Objective:An experimental intervention was conducted to investigate the effect of blood flow restriction training on the strength of the major muscles of the lower limbs of sport dancers and to investigate the difference in the growth of the major muscles of the lower limbs with different compression methods. The aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of this training method on lower limb strength growth in sport dancers and to provide a safe and effective training method for sport dancers to improve their lower limb major muscle strength.Methods:Twenty-four undergraduate students of Nanjing Sports Institute,Class of 2020,specializing in Sport Dance were used as experimental subjects, and were divided into three groups of eight students each. The groups were blank(no blood flow restriction intervention),experimental group one(blood flow restriction intervention with a pressure of 180 mm Hg and pressure release at rest between groups)and experimental group two(blood flow restriction intervention with a pressure of 180 mm Hg and no pressure release at rest between groups),the exercises are weighted frog jumps and weighted heel lifts with a 10 Kg dumbbell piece,8 weeks,3 sets per week,4 sets each, except for the first set of 30 reps,15 reps for each set,1 minute rest between sets.Basic information such as height, weight and age were collected from the subjects before the experiment.Data were collected before and after the experiment on the surface electromyography, maximum strength, rapid strength, muscular endurance and other relevant indexes of the main muscles of the knee and ankle joints of the lower limbs,as well as tests of specific athletic ability, and the final before and after data were compared.Results:(1)Blood flow restriction training significantly improved the RMS values of the medial femoral muscles in both legs, and was able to significantly improve the RMS values of the rectus femoris and biceps femoris in both legs, which was significantly better than the blank group;blood flow restriction training significantly improved the RMS values of the gastrocnemius muscles in both legs, which was significantly better than the blank group, and the RMS values of the tibialis anterior muscles in both legs were not significantly improved.(2)The effect of blood flow restriction training on the maximum strength(PT value)of quadriceps and biceps of both legs was significant and better than the blank group;the effect of rapid strength(TAE value)of quadriceps and biceps of both legs was significant and better than the blank group;the effect of strength to endurance ratio(ER value)of quadriceps and biceps of both legs was not significant, but the ER value of quadriceps of both legs changed significantly compared to the blank group.(3)Through the 8-week experiment, all 3 groups showed significant effect on the improvement of maximal strength(PT)of gastrocnemius muscle in both legs, but no significant change on the improvement of tibialis anterior muscle compared with the blank group;all 3 groups showed significant effect on the improvement of rapid strength(TAE)of gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior muscle in both legs;all 3 groups showed significant effect on the improvement of strength endurance ratio(ER)of gastrocnemius muscle in both legs, but no significant change on the improvement of tibialis anterior muscle compared with the blank group.(4)Through the 8-week experiment, all 3 groups were able to improve the lower limb specific athletic performance of the athletic dancers; However, there was no significant change in any of the anterior tibial muscle lifting effects.(5)By comparing the data, there was no significant difference between the experimental group one and experimental group two in all data.Conclusions:(1)Blood flow restriction training improves muscle activation in the major knee flexors and extensors and the calf gastrocnemius, but not significantly in the anterior tibialis.(2)Blood flow restriction training can be an effective training tool for sports dancers to develop increased strength in the major muscles of the knee joint and the gastrocnemius muscle.(3)Blood flow restriction training can improve the performance of sports dancers in lower limb specific sports, and it also proves that sports dancers need to train for lower limb strength.(4)The experiment proved that there was no difference in the improvement of lower limb strength of the athletic dancers with or without stress release between groups,so the choice of whether to release stress or not needs to be made according to the physical specifics of the athletic dancers during the training process.
