| In February 2022,the translator translated the fifth chapter of Poverty Alleviation in China. The source text discusses the mechanisms and methods of endogenous poverty alleviation and can be categorized as an academic work on social science. It is featured by a large number of poverty alleviation terms and Chinese run-on sentences,as well as many redundancies.Under the CEA Framework put forward by Professor Li Changshuan, this report analyzes the problems encountered during the translation process and summarizes the corresponding translation strategies. The comprehension stage mainly deals with words and phrases that are difficult to understand.By searching online resources and consulting the context,an accurate comprehension of such difficult words was achieved. The expression stage tackles Chinese run-on sentences.By selecting an appropriate subject, adding logical connectives, and changing word order,a translated text was produced that flows smoothly and conforms to the principles of English writing, making it easier for target readers to comprehend the information. The adaptation stage focuses on the adjustment of redundancy, metaphors, and parallel structure.Repetitive information was deleted to deliver a concise translation, metaphors were converted to sense to achieve greater clarity, and parallel structure was maintained by keeping a consistent grammatical pattern among a series of subtitles to highlight the connections between ideas. This report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the background of this translation project. The second chapter summarizes the features of the source text at the levels of word, syntax, and discourse. The third chapter introduces the analytical framework of “Comprehension,Expression, and Adaptation” and relevant theories. The fourth chapter is the case analysis. It analyzes the problems in translation from three dimensions: comprehension, expression, and adaptation. The fifth chapter concludes this report, summarizing the solutions for the problems encountered during the translation process. |
