The relationship between technology and art has once again become a matter of great concern as artificial intelligence invades the field of art and forces art history to update its direction.The new phenomenon in the art world is tricky and critical to deal with,and the ontological perspective provides the theoretical support for solving the problem of artistic boundaries,as Artificial Intelligence generation are confronted with the problem of attribution as “artifacts of creation”.The means by which Artificial Intelligence intervenes in art includes both the role of a supportive tool and a somewhat autonomous act of artistic creation that relies on exponential learning capabilities.Artificial Intelligence suffers from the absence of emotion and consciousness and cannot give temperature to generation.At this level,the generation is non-artistic works excluded from the art circle.A contradictory view grants the generator an identity and reserves a place for the AI generator in the art field with the help of a perceptible but invisible art theoretical atmosphere or art historical knowledge.The definition of art is not limited to the distinction between artistic and non-artistic works,but should also include the category of artistic authorship.On the one hand,the status of the human subject is difficult to be shaken by Artificial Intelligence because of the inimitability of emotion and consciousness.On the other hand,the “scam”implemented by AI still loosens the status of human as a creative subject and tends to drive human artists off the pedestal.The reason why artificial intelligence is so controversial in the art world is that it cannot be separated from the “last mile” of art acceptance.In the process of the initial shock of the new elements to the process of becoming accustomed to them through repeated appreciation,an alternative conceptual norm is needed.From assistance and collaboration to the erasure of human traces,the once exclusively human field of art has inevitably been invaded by Artificial Intelligence.Literature,painting,music,etc.have become technological testing grounds,relying on databases of human artworks to generate “faked” objects.In the face of the dislocation between art theory and new phenomena,ontology attempts to address the question of what art is and to re-examine the boundary between art and non-art in the context of the functional-institutional divide.By functional definition,the algorithmic black box carries the mystery of unpredictability.But in terms of the results of the presentation of the input,the transcendence of the input becomes an insurmountable challenge for the algorithm.So the AI may be a good copyist,but is included as a non-art work due to the unquantifiable nature of the artwork’s unique context and the lack of one or some necessary qualities.The same institution of Art that has helped contemporary art to transmogrify the commonplace is also effective in explaining Artificial Intelligence generation.Artistic practice takes place under a set of rules in the art world,and the artifacts have “artifact properties” and enjoy the designation of an authority to be presented to the public as works of art in art institutions.Art can evoke humanistic concerns,and the addition of emotion and embodiment has long made human beings the subjects of creation.It is because of the difficulty of coding emotions and the incalculability of consciousness that it is possible for humans to see through the lies of appearances perpetrated by artificial intelligence in the art world.While machine learning is supported by a zero-sum game,human existence is created by the ambiguous environment of a chaotic state.The finite nature of life is the yoke of the body,and the topicality associated with the body has enriched the history of art and made talented artists.Human beings resist the predictable destiny with their restricted bodies to achieve the perfection of human being.But even though the technology of the weak AI stage lacks emotion and consciousness,and the perceptibility of the physical body is blank,it still poses a threat to the identity of the human artist as a subject,and performs a new kind of“illusion-like” falsification power under the rules of the algorithm.Inheriting the bold attempts and out-of-the-ordinary behaviors of the artistic predecessors who abandoned the differentiation of the subject matter,the Artificial Intelligence as a non-natural person provides a false sense of intimacy by revealing its “humanity” and continues to create a shocking tradition with the claim that the new technology changes everything.With the necessary arrangement,the audience’s perception is also mobilized.The encounter between art creation and artwork forced an adjustment in the norms of art reception.In the face of unfamiliar feats,the right thing for the public to do is to change the criterion of “intentional relevance”,to seek random,uncertain aesthetic experiences to adapt to the fluidity of the work,and to renew the usual norms of reception in alternative contexts.The intrusion of Artificial Intelligence into art is inherently proactive,and the deliberate interruption of dialogue with art and the argument of technological determinism only breeds more trouble.Only by choosing to confront the new phenomena arising from the intersection of technology and art,and by cutting through the most essential perspectives,will the boundaries of art be clarified rather than generalized in an unrestrained manner.
