Inheriting And Breaking Through-a Comparative Study Of The Flower And Bird Painting Styles Of Li Kuchan And Qi Baishi

Qi Baishi and Li Kuchan are two well-known artists in the history of modern Chinese flower-and-bird painting.They share the same artistic character and spirit.Qi and Li not only made bold changes on the road of art,but also led the new fashion of modern Chinese flower-and-bird painting.They are closely related to each other in art,and have too much comparability in terms of life times,creation background,teacher relationship,tradition inheritance and innovation.Furthermore,this paper takes the flower-and-bird painting styles of Li Kuchan and Qi Baishi as the research object,adopts the methods of literature research and parallel comparison,and conducts a series of comparative studies on the causes,style characteristics and influence of the flower-and-bird painting styles of Li Kuchan and Qi Baishi.The research shows that in the inheritance and breakthrough of Li Kuchan to Qi Baishi,they have similar techniques to the tradition,but have different personality expression.The formation of Li Kuchan’s painting style has a great relationship with this "personality expression".This paper also points out the reality that the poem name of Qi Baishi was masked by the painting name and the reason why Li Kuchan set up the pioneer of the creation school,so as to show the important role of some internal and external factors in the inheritance and breakthrough of the tradition.And the realistic significance of the comparative study between Li Kuchan and Qi Baishi’s flower-and-bird painting styles is expounded.This paper tries to comprehensively compare the relationship between the formation of Qi and Li’s painting style and social environment,culture and personality.This comparison is mainly based on Li Kuchan,and explores Li Kuchan’s inheritance and breakthrough of Qi Baishi’s flower-and-bird painting style from various aspects.In the process of comparison,some social background,personal experiences and other meticulous research,in order to reveal the painter’s mentality and artistic maturity process on the formation of the painting style of the important influence.Therefore,through the research results of the comparison of their artistic styles,we can better understand the painting characteristics of their times and how Li Kuchan broke through Qi Baishi in the inheritance,so as to provide more ideas and inspiration for future study and research.
