A Study Of Folk Practices In The Folk Song Movement Of Northern Shaanxi During The Yan’an Period

From 1935 to 1948,the Communist Party of China shifted its revolutionary position to northern Shaanxi,and immediately set off a cultural movement in full swing in northern Shaanxi,in which Shaanxi folk songs,as typical representatives of traditional local folk culture,also became an important propaganda tool and left a strong mark on the Party’s propaganda history.This paper examines the folk song movement in northern Shaanxi during the Yan’an period,focusing on the revolutionary significance of folk songs in northern Shaanxi during the Yan’an period.Compared with the traditional folk songs of northern Shaanxi,the Yan’an period witnessed great changes,which began in the domestic revolutionary environment and the literary policy adopted by the Party in the border areas.The folk song movement has gone beyond the entertainment and aesthetic effectiveness of folk songs and has been infused with strong political motivations.The folk songs of northern Shaanxi were no longer just a tool for the general public to entertain themselves,but were closely related to the cause of national liberation and became powerful songs for propaganda and mobilization.In the course of the folk song movement,the folk songs of northern Shaanxi exerted great political energy in order to adapt to the new revolutionary situation,and at the same time,the content and form of the folk songs of northern Shaanxi were deconstructed and reconstructed.On the political soil of the revolutionary base areas,the folk songs of northern Shaanxi gained new opportunities for development and were injected with vigorous revolutionary vitality.This is an oral singing tradition unparalleled elsewhere.Rooted in local daily life,folk songs inspire amazing power in effective propaganda and mobilization,showing the infinite potential and practical power contained in traditional folk culture in many aspects,such as artistic expression,cultural core and external influence.
