In recent years,the block game,as a kind of puzzle game,has become popular in China,and has been loved by children and adults for its unique educational nature.When children are building blocks,they are piecing together small blocks into part works and then piecing together a complete work from part to part,just like the letters in our English vocabulary to form complete words.By combining building block games with vocabulary learning to explore the internal relationship between them,a new vocabulary teaching design activity can be created to enrich vocabulary teaching strategies.This study aims to verify the practicability of block games in English vocabulary teaching,by exploring how to use block games in English vocabulary which is learned in primary school based on the game teaching method.According to plenty of relevant literature,this study,built on Affective Filter Hypothesis and the theory of multiple intelligence,mainly focuses on two issues: the first is what ways to use block games in English vocabulary teaching which is in primary school;the second is what aspects to improve the efficiency of students’ vocabulary learning from,with the application of block games.In addition,a total of 80 students,who were from two classes in the fourth grade of a primary school in Nanjing,were carried out with a one-semester teaching study.Data collection and effect analysis were conducted on the research objects by means of questionnaire survey,test and other research methods.The results show that: the first is that building block games can be combined with vocabulary teaching for scientific and reasonable teaching design;the second is that building block games have improved the comprehensive ability of elementary school students in English application,that is,improved the efficiency of students’ vocabulary learning.To sum up,the application of block games in English vocabulary that is learned in primary schools,which is a good beginning,can promote students’ interest and their motivation in the cultivation of divergent thinking and learning.Therefore,it can improve the efficiency of vocabulary learning.What’s more,it can enrich the methods and strategies of the ways to teach words.Building block games can be a great advance in elementary school English vocabulary teaching,which can be also used for reference in other areas of English teaching.
