In 2020,at the 14th meeting of the Central Committee for Comprehensively Deepening Reform,the General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed that it is necessary to adhere to the direction of running a socialist school,and to implement the fundamental needs of educating people by virtue of education laws,and to formulate appropriate teaching mechanisms according to different subjects and different types of educational characteristics.The new curriculum standard also points out that all disciplines need to give full play to the effect of teaching and educating people in order to realize the true sense of moral education.Ideological and political education plays an important role in the teaching objectives of English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition),and the integration of curriculum ideological and political education and English teaching has become a hot topic in today’s educational circles.Scholars generally believe that curriculum ideological and political education is closely related to the educational concept of the new era,which is the perfect integration of the concept of moral education and subject knowledge teaching and learning,and the fundamental way to cultivate students’ all-round moral outlook and all-round development of morality,intelligence and physique.However,at present,the relevant research on curriculum ideology and politics is mostly theoretical research,and the empirical research is mainly concentrated in the higher education stage,and the research on the integration of curriculum ideology and politics into the subject curriculum in primary and secondary schools is relatively scarce.Pupils’ physical and mental development is obviously different from that of college students,and their ability to accept the knowledge of ideological and political education is also different from that of college students.Teachers’ ideological and political integration in teaching may have its own characteristics and influencing factors.In view of this,this study takes primary school English teachers as the research object,and through semi-structured interviews,classroom observation and other methods,understands the current situation of the integration of curriculum ideology and politics in primary school English classrooms and the factors affecting its integration.This paper takes 10 primary school English teachers as the research subjects,and mainly studies three major questions:(1)How do primary school English teachers understand curriculum ideology and politics;(2)In the process of teaching,how do English teachers in primary schools carry out curriculum ideological and political education;(3)What are the factors that affect the integration of curriculum ideology and politics into primary English classes? Based on the above three questions,under the guidance of the learning theory of collaborative development and implicit education,this paper conducted 10 semi-structured interviews with 10 teachers in two primary schools in X county through telephone and face-to-face interviews,and analyzed the data with nvivo software based on grounded theory.At the same time,this study conducted classroom observation of 40 classes,and observed the current situation of teachers’ ideological and political integration in English vocabulary class,English reading class,English pronunciation class and English exercise class from five aspects:teaching objectives,teaching contents,integration methods,integration time and teaching evaluation.It is found that primary school English teachers in X county have a certain understanding of curriculum ideology and politics.In terms of the connotation of curriculum ideology and politics,teachers know more about the value-building dimension of curriculum ideology and politics,but less about the fundamental task of moral education.In addition,some teachers think that curriculum ideological and political education is a combination of two or three of ideological and political education activities,value shaping and the realization of moral education.However,teachers lack understanding of the dimensions of implicit curriculum.Most primary school English classroom teaching will be integrated with certain courses of ideological and political education.In terms of integration methods,there are many ways to integrate ideological and political elements into English reading classes and vocabulary classes.Teachers generally integrate natural culture related to the theme into these classes through teaching introduction,group activities,example explanations,games and discussions.However,the integration method of practice class and pronunciation class is single,and teachers generally tap the ideological and political elements such as study habits and rule consciousness,which may be due to the fixed curriculum materials and less ideological and political content that teachers can integrate into the curriculum.From the perspective of teaching,teachers generally integrate ideological and political elements into the introduction,presentation and summary of vocabulary and reading classes,and into the presentation and consolidation of pronunciation classes,while teachers mainly integrate them according to specific topics in practice classes.From the perspective of teaching evaluation,teachers with less teaching experience and schools located in county towns have more diversified evaluation methods and richer evaluation languages,and are more willing to use evaluation to motivate students.Rural teachers pay more attention to knowledge teaching because of limited class hours or poor student foundation,thus ignoring teaching evaluation.Whether ideological and political education is integrated into the curriculum is influenced by teaching experience,education background and teaching environment.Compared with rural teachers with bachelor’s degree,county teachers with graduate degree and newly graduated teachers have a higher understanding of curriculum ideology and politics.In addition,some factors in classroom teaching also affect the integration of curriculum ideology and politics: in terms of teaching materials,teachers lack the ability of teaching design and can’t tap the effective ideological and political elements in teaching materials;As for teachers,they lack the relevant theoretical knowledge of ideological and political education,the infiltration ability of ideological and political courses,the intensity of teachers’ work and the pressure of teaching.In terms of schools,schools do not attach importance to ideological and political education in courses and lack unified and effective formal policy documents to guide them.The research holds that in order to realize effective ideological and political education in primary school English classroom,the following measures can be taken: in terms of teaching materials,teachers should grasp the teaching materials as a whole,carefully study and fully explore the ideological and political elements in the teaching materials;In terms of teachers,teachers should learn the theoretical knowledge and integration methods of curriculum ideological and political education,improve the infiltration ability of curriculum ideological and political education,strengthen their own ideological and political literacy,and use their own words and deeds in classroom teaching to enable students to receive cultural knowledge while being influenced by humanistic and moral concepts;On the school side,schools should attach importance to students’ moral education,take curriculum ideological and political education as the fundamental way to cultivate people,increase the popularization of curriculum ideological and political education,develop the methods of integrating curriculum ideological and political education into subject knowledge education,and increase the training and evaluation of teachers’ curriculum ideological and political education.
