In recent years, researchers have begun to focus on human emotion recognition and its underlying mechanisms. The traditional view is that facial expressions are the main source of information for human emotion recognition;therefore, most previous studies have focused on facial emotion recognition. However,in practice, people perceive emotions of others not only from faces, but also rely on somatic and speech information.Currently, some researchers have begun to notice the importance of somatic expressions in emotion recognition and have conducted corresponding studies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the music and somatic emotion recognition abilities of a depressed group of high school students and to explore the audio-visual processing mechanisms of music and somatic emotion recognition using a priming paradigm. The study was divided into two parts: in Study 1,a mental health survey was conducted on a group of high school students using the Flow Centre Depression Inventory and the Secondary School Mental Health Inventory to determine the mental health status of the high school student population. In Study 2,four emotion recognition experiments were conducted, namely, musical emotion recognition in depressed individuals with single channel activation, somatic emotion recognition in depressed individuals with single channel activation, musical emotion recognition in depressed individuals with cross channel activation, and somatic emotion recognition in depressed individuals with cross channel activation. All four experiments used a 2*2 mixed experimental design, with the between-group variable being group and the within-group variable being emotional congruence. The dependent variables were indicators of subjects’ completion of the emotion recognition task-mean correctness and mean reaction time. This study concluded that high school students were generally better at depressive tendencies and mental health, with significant differences in grade and gender variables;there were significant differences in students’ musical emotion recognition ability between the high and low depressive tendency groups, with the high depressive tendency group having greater musical emotion sensitivity;there were significant differences in students’ somatic emotion recognition ability between the high and low depressive tendency groups, with the high depressive tendency In the cross-channel somatic emotion recognition task, musical emotion had an initiating effect on somatic emotion;in the cross-channel somatic emotion recognition task, somatic emotion could positively initiate musical emotion recognition. The present study reveals the ability of music and somatic emotion recognition and the initiation effect between music and somatic emotion recognition in depressed individuals, which enriches the research on emotion recognition in depressed individuals and can be a theoretical reference for intervention practice in depressed individuals.
