With the increasing internationalization of agricultural development, academics are paying more and more attention to the translation studies of agricultural science and technology texts. This translation practice material is selected from Greening Cities by Growing Food: A Political Ecology Analysis of Urban Agriculture in the Americas released by Springer International Publishing in January 2022.Urban agriculture has become an important way to solve urban food security and improve the quality of life for urban residents. The source text, which belongs to agricultural science and technology texts, contains a large amount of knowledge and information related to agricultural technology. The translation of this text can provide valuable references and guidance for urban agriculture production. Therefore, translating agricultural technology texts related to urban agriculture can provide strong support to the development of urban agriculture. This book studies how urban agriculture draws the attention of sustainable cities. The source text belongs to agricultural science and technology text, and its language has the following characteristics: in terms of vocabulary,it uses a large number of terms and proper nouns;in terms of syntax,it mostly uses long and difficult sentences and passive sentences with many noun structures;and the discourse is logical and coherent.According to Newmark’s text typology, the material belongs to informational text,so it mostly adopts the communicative translation strategy.Through case studies, this report explores the use of communicative translation in agricultural science and technology texts, and adopts different translation methods according to the characteristics of the texts at three levels: explicitation, zero translation, and conversion are used at the lexical level;conversion, division, and negation are used at the syntactic level;restructuring and addition are used at the discourse level.Through specific case studies and post-translation experience summaries and reflections,I further illustrate the applicability of communicative translation in agricultural science and technology texts to realize effective translation.
