On The Violence In New Mainstream War Films(2007-2022)

This thesis conducts a study based on the new mainstream war films from 2007 to 2022 to explore violence in the new mainstream war films.The issue of violence in the new mainstream war films shall be analyzed from the following seven chapters.Chapter One serves as an introduction to the research background,status of this thesis,thus presenting the urgent issues that need to be addressed and research significance of this thesis.Chapter Two explores the concept of violence and the presentation method of violence in films to summarize the manifestation of violence in traditional war films.Chapter Three starts with the basic research of the new mainstream war films,defines the concept of the new mainstream war films,and summarizes the presenting characteristics of violence in the new mainstream war films.Chapter Four elaborates the direct presentation of violence in the new mainstream war films by exemplifying with representative visual and auditory samples.Chapter Five discusses the indirect expression of violence in the new mainstream war films.The indirect expression of violence in new mainstream war films is implied to the audience mainly in narration and through visual modeling based on narration,which thereby co-constitute the indirect violence in the new mainstream war films.Chapter Six mainly discusses the ethical significance and aesthetic value enabled by violence through different modes of presentation.Chapter Seven concludes the element of violence in the new mainstream war films.To sum up,the difference between new mainstream war films and traditional war films showcases the ethical characteristics of pacifism,historical nihility,and individualistic heroism to a certain extent under the influence of Hollywood commercial film narratives.Meanwhile,extra attention shall also be paid to the aesthetic value of new mainstream war films that combines tragedy and nobility,which finds its root in the unique presentation of violence to the audience.This thesis conducts a thorough research on the violence in the new mainstream war films in the hope of supplementing the research on the domestic new mainstream films.
