A Study On Chinese Graded Readings For Foreign Young Learners

The basic concept of graded reading is "reading different books at different stage".It provides scientific and applicable reading plans and books for language learners according to their language development level at different stages.As auxiliary learning materials for Chinese learners,graded reading materials for Chinese learning,derived from the in-depth development of reading theory and the strong demand of domestic and overseas markets,play an important role in the gradual process of language learning.Language learners take the initiative to read graded reading materials,and their learning of language increases from spontaneous to conscious.The writing quality of graded reading materials can reflect the maturity of language transmission.According to the survey and statistics of this paper,a total of 14 graded Chinese books have been published in the past 15 years.Among them,"Good Friend Chinese Graded Reading(youth edition)","Easy Cat Chinese Graded Reading","Rainbow Bridge Chinese Graded Reading" and "Seven Colors Dragon Chinese Graded Reading" are compiled with their own characteristics,which are deeply loved by foreign young Chinese learners.Therefore,we choose these four sets of reading materials as the research object,using two perspectives of macro arrangement and micro compilation for comprehensive research.Macroscopically,it mainly investigates three levels: writing principle,writing style and level setting.Among them,the writing principle layer selects the three perspectives of interest,legibility and practicability,the compilation style layer compares the arrangement order of teaching content,and the level setting layer mainly analyzes the word-level spacing and volume number of readings.At the micro level,the author examines material selection,vocabulary,sentences,exercises and supporting resources,analyzes subject matter,genre and topic at the material selection level,counts the proportion of new words and the recurrence of key words at the vocabulary level,calculates the average sentence length and the average number of sentences per hundred characters at the sentence level,counts the types and amount of questions at the practice level,and examines illustrations and auxiliary teaching resources at the supporting resources level.It is found that the compilation of the four books has its own characteristics,but there are also some shortcomings in the subject matter and genre,the degree of vocabulary and sentence adaptation,the recurrence of key new words,and the interest of exercises and auxiliary resources.Therefore,this paper puts forward the following compiling suggestions: on the macro layout level,we suggest to clarify the positioning of reading material and reconstruct the compiling concept;Setting levels scientifically and controlling text difficulty;Highlight the characteristics of reading materials and carrying on brand building.On the micro level,we think that the compilation of reading material needs a variety of themes and genres,a wide selection of topics,a moderate proportion of new words,a wide selection of topics,The proportion of new words is moderate,the sentence length is properly controlled;Illustration drawing is interesting,introduction and annotation are in place;Practice setting is flexible and supporting resources are abundant.
