| In the early 17 th century,the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan used silver barter to attract Ming merchants.As an open port,Nagasaki became the gathering place of the Japanese Chinese in the Ming Dynasty.Although the Ming government implemented a strict policy of maritime prohibition,there were still many private traders to trade with Japan driven by interests,which provided opportunities for scholars and scholars in coastal areas to make a living across the Japanese border in the late Ming Dynasty.In this context,33-year-old Chen Yuanyun arrived in Nagasaki,Japan by merchant ship in the autumn of the 47 th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty(1619).He began his 52-year journey to Japan and gradually became active in various fields in Japan.During his association with Japanese Confucians,such as Lin Luoshan,Chen Yuanyun,on the one hand,flourished in the Japanese literary world by relying on his poetry literary works;On the other hand,based on the General Examination of the Classics of Laozi,he criticized the interpretation of Laozi theory by the Confucian thoughts of the scholars in the shogunate.Combining with his own experience,he advocated the "Self-actualization of inaction,tranquility and self-correction" and emphasized the idea of governing the country by practical learning through the theory of Laozi,which brought a new thinking direction for the mainstream of respecting Confucianism in Japan.Chen Yuanyun actively befriended Japanese politicians,rose to the top of Japanese society and was appointed to official positions.During his stay in the Changmen Kingdom,at the invitation of the Grand Priest of Mouri Terumoto,he created the Chronicles of Changmen Country guided by the concept of advocating simplicity and accommodating the Grand Priest,spreading Chinese local chronicles and providing a Chinese model for Japanese chronicles;In the recognition of the Tokugawa Yoshinao Lord,he became an official of Wei-Zhang Lord,taught the sons of the Lord and presided over the "Yuanyun-burning",which provided a broader space for his thoughts,theories and skills to play.Chen Yuanyun was known as the "sage" in Japan because of his skills and talents.He and the Japanese monk Yuan Zheng co-wrote Yuanyuan aria,which promoted the rise of spiritual poetry in the Japanese literary world.He combined Japanese jujitsu with Shaolin Wushu,established wushu medicine guided by Taoist thought,created Japanese judo and completed the first step of modernization of Japanese judo;Chen yuanyun made pottery tea sets,added Chinese tea dishes and increaseded the etiquette of tea tasting.He enriched the original Japanese tea ceremony culture and promoted Japanese tea ceremony to form a unique literati tea purport.In 1671,Chen Yuanyun died at the age of 85 in Nagoya,Japan.Over fifty years in Japan,Chen Yuanyun was not only a scholar respected by the Japanese upper rulers and made great achievements in his official career,but also a writer,thinker,calligrapher and martial artist whose works and techniques were handed down to later generations.As a "cultural envoy" of China and Japan,Chen Yuanyun did his best to spread the culture of his homeland to foreign lands,promote technological innovation,enrich people’s life and promote cultural integration. |
