A Study Of Wei Taihou Piaohao

From its establishment in 1826 to its closure in 1921,Wei Taihou Piaohao witnessed economic and social changes from the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China in its continuous operation for nearly a century.Compared with other Shanxi Piaohao,Wei Taihou Piaohao has its own particularity as well as the commonness of other Shanxi Piaohao.This paper hopes to analyze the political,economic and social environment at that time by taking Wei Taihou as the research subject through the materials retained from Wei Taihou and some related Piaohao,hoping to explore the emergence,operation and influence of Wei Taihou Piaohao on the society at that time.Wei Taihou Piaohao is not produced by accident,but has its suitable survival and development of soil and environment,trade between regions in the Qing Dynasty,the formation of the domestic regional market for its to create favorable conditions.The original bank,account bureau,bank account and other financial institutions also provide experience for the operation of ticket numbers.At the same time,Shanxi ticket merchants,by virtue of its unique geographical advantages,make use of the convenience of being close to the national political center,rely on good relationship between government and business,and rely on national policies,make reasonable use of the national financial and monetary system at that time.Wei Taihou Piaohao through agency donation,exchange,and payment of Beijing rates.A series of businesses,such as the provision of deposit funds,have connected the central and local governments,the state and the public,and finally developed step by step.Under the dual system of silver and money in the Qing Dynasty,Wei Taihou developed its own basic system by taking advantage of the difference of silver and money between different regions,and gained rich profits through the difference between the balance amount.The development of Wei Taihou was closely related to the national policies of the Qing Dynasty.Under the background of the large-scale donation during the Dao guang Period,the donation business not only brought a lot of profits for Wei Taihou,but also created favorable conditions for Wei Taihou to get to know the officials through this business.In the late Qing Dynasty,there were many debates about whether the exchange of official funds could be carried out.However,due to the support of some local governor forces,Wei Taihou’s exchange and payment services in Beijing also operated normally,and this business eventually became the pillar business of Wei Taihou,bringing huge benefits to it.However,with the establishment of modern national banks in the late Qing Dynasty and the introduction of western coinage technology,the business volume of ticket gradually decreased,and the source of profit also became single,which eventually inevitably led to the closure of the business.
