A Report On The Translation Of Global EV Outlook 2021 (Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Adaptation Theory

In recent years,the research and development of electric vehicles has gradually attracted people’s attention with broad prospects.A large number of English texts related to electric vehicles have emerged,and the importance of these texts’ translation has increased.Considering the unique linguistic characteristics of sci-tech texts,the translator applies some appropriate translation strategies to make the translation practice more systematic and scientific.This translation report selects Global EV Outlook 2021 as the original text.This report elaborates the background and significance of the translation practice,its structure,translation process,case analysis and the translator’s conclusion of the translation practice.Under the guidance of Verschueren’s Adaptation Theory,this report tries to solve the key and difficult points of the translation practice from the perspective of contextual correlates of adaptability and structural objects of adaptability.The key and difficult points include how to adapt to the communicative context and the linguistic context of the technical text,as well as how to process the translation of words and long sentences in terms of linguistic structure.In order to solve the above difficulties,this report adopts translation methods that adapt to the communicative context of the target readers,the linguistic context of the source text and the linguistic structure of the target language.Specific translation strategies are adopted to make the target text faithful,accurate and readable,such as amplification,conversion of part of speech,semantic extension and restructuring discourses etc.It is hoped that this practice report can provide some reference for the research and practice of sci-tech translation.
