| Context plays a pivotal role in the translation process, and the research perspectives on translation contexts at home and abroad are constantly tending to be interdisciplinary. The combination of translation and cognitive linguistics has promoted the development of translation contexts, and the cognitive translation context has emerged as a result. From the traditional context to cognitive context, the focus of translation context research has shifted from the text itself and objective factors to a translator’s conscious activities. It emphasizes the translator-centered translation process, which has resulted in numerous translation context models. This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of Chapter 3 of Vaccines as Technology: Innovation,Barriers and the Public Health and selects the process-based cognitive translation context model as its theory to analyze cases. It defines translation process as a whole process of “infer-interpret”.In order to fully demonstrate the translation process, the model is divided into two processes,“infer” and “interpret”.And core issues and their solutions of this translation process are discussed from the infer process of translation objective context and the interpret process of translation objective context. For the “infer” process, linguistic context is conducive to adding omitted meanings and disambiguating the source text.Together with the cultural and social contexts, they help to construct a cognitive context to infer deeper cultural or social meanings between sentences. As to the “interpret” stage, due to different thinking patterns between Chinese and English people, the translator will also adopt the existing cognitive context constructed from linguistic, cultural and social contexts to interpreting flexibly, which ensures the translation can be easily understood by readers. |
