National unity is an important cornerstone of a multicultural,multi-ethnic coexistence country.Marx pointed out that "geography is a necessary condition for the survival and development of human society",and the Yunnan,Sichuan and Tibetan regions have been a multi-ethnic settlement area for Tibetan,Chinese,Bai,Yi and Naxi people on the southwest border of China since ancient times.Due to the complexity and diversity of the geographic environment, the region’s rugged terrain, inconvenient transportation and harsh climatic conditions, coupled with the complexity and instability of multi-ethnic relations in the region, these factors have to a certain extent restricted the economic and social development of the southwest frontier region. With the promotion of the "One Belt and One Road" initiative, the need to build up a sense of Chinese national community and the practical need to build a national national unity model region, the southwest region, especially the Yunnan,Sichuan and Tibet regions,as the center-fringe region and the southwest window of the country to the outside world, has become the core region for ethnic studies. It is of great significance to strengthen the economic and cultural development of multi-ethnic regions and the integration of ethnic relations to maintain the stability and development of the frontier.Based on this, this paper integrates the theories of history, ethnic geography, and human-earth relations to study the multi-ethnic groups in Yunnan,Sichuan, and Tibetan regions in different periods of time, and compares their symbiotic processes and spatial pattern evolution, and conducts a long-term and overall regional study, and takes the multi-ethnic symbiotic village,Adunzi,in Shangri-La ethnic demonstration area,as an example to explore the driving factors behind its community. The results of the study indicate that.(1)The interaction and integration among different ethnic groups in the contiguous region of Yunnan,Sichuan, and Tibet shaped a special symbiotic pattern during different historical periods.During the Yuan,Ming, and Qing dynasties, the contiguous region of Yunnan,Sichuan, and Tibet was famous for its ancient tea horse routes, and the trade and economic exchanges and population movements among different ethnic groups became the key to symbiosis. In the current period, with the development of transportation network, the exchanges and integration among ethnic groups have become closer, and the relationship among ethnic groups has become closer and closer, forming a new symbiosis pattern. In terms of spatial pattern, the transition from the early scattered system of mainly agriculture and animal husbandry to the diversified and three-dimensional exchange pattern in the current period has brought into fuller play the complementarity and cooperation among various ethnic groups, thus achieving common development and prosperity.(2)In terms of human-territory relations, the special geographical environment and natural conditions in the contiguous areas of Yunnan,Sichuan and Tibet have had a profound impact on the human-territory relations in the region. On the one hand, the constraints of the geographical environment have prompted local residents to adopt a lifestyle of rational use of nature and ecological protection;on the other hand, relying on local resource advantages, the evaluation results of land-land and people-land have revealed that the evolution of human-land relations in the region has a certain potential space, and the interdependence and mutually beneficial relationships among various ethnic groups have been The interdependence and mutually beneficial relationships among various ethnic groups have been brought into full play, and the goal of multi-ethnic co-existence and prosperity has been realized. The main drivers behind this are economic factors at different times and the secondary factor is the rise of the tea and horse trade, which has expanded the space for trade and exchange and promoted the exchange and prosperity of ethnic cultures, together with the special local policies, which have combined to make Adunzi community a typical demonstration area of multi-ethnic integration and coexistence in Shangri-La.(3)Multi-ethnic co-existence in Yunnan,Sichuan, and Tibet is the common result of mutual trial and error and coexistence between central government and local governance based on the specificity of geographical environment and the complementarity of local ways of living.Further exploring the geographic basis of the evolution and continuity of multi-ethnic symbiosis in the contiguous areas of Yunnan,Sichuan and Tibet will provide more useful references and insights for promoting the construction of the Chinese national community and the development of national unity.
