With the development and innovation of electronic media technology and art culture,music video,represented by music video,has become a mature and independent art form.As a cross-sensory communication medium,music video is dynamic and gives audiences a rich audio-visual experience,which can bring great value to design creation and commercial applications.Therefore,music video has become an integral part of today’s society and permeates all aspects of people’s lives.However,in today’s media,a large number of music video works rely too much on the communication advantages of moving images,while weakening the correlation between visual images and music,ignoring the conceptual concepts and emotions in music art,presenting the design disadvantages of shallowness and lack of depth.In this context,it is of academic and social significance to intervene narrative theory in the visual design of music images,to enhance the spiritual connotation and humanistic care of music images,and to meet the spiritual and cultural needs of audiences.This paper mainly adopts interdisciplinary research method and case study method,based on the perspective of design,combining music acoustics and narrative theory,taking music video works as the main research object,aiming to explore the visual design of music video under the framework of narrative theory.Firstly,this paper explores the inherent isomorphism of audiovisual information and explains the basis of visual translation of "form" and "content" in music discourse.This paper explores the development of music video and illustrates the necessity of using narrative theory to intervene in the visual design of contemporary music video,and points out the characteristics and advantages of narrative design in relation to the genre characteristics of music video.Secondly,based on the narrative theory,the visual narrative analysis framework of music video is proposed,and the correlation between the elements and expressions of visual narrative and the musical discourse and audience is explored.Once again,the narrative themes are divided into four levels according to the functional dimension of visual narratives of music images and the consciousness dimension of visual creation.We delineate the types of narrative roles in music images and summarize the ways of mapping narrative roles.The relationship between the "form" of music,narrative time and narrative space is revealed.Finally,based on the theory of narrative focus and the visual narrative performance of music images,four narrative focus modes are discussed in turn.We summarize the visual narrative lineage of music images,explore the visual narrative structure of three music images,and explore the inner connection between the narrative structure and the narrative theme.And based on the visual narrative communication model of music images,combined with the theoretical achievements of reception aesthetics,we analyze the visual narrative expression of music images from the audience’s perspective.This paper intervenes in the visual design of music video with a solid narratological theoretical framework,emphasizing the strong connection between visual text and musical discourse,showing the rhythm and humanistic connotation of music art through visual narrative elements and expressions,and providing a new perspective and analysis path for the visual design of music video,in order to provide theoretical reference and inspiration for related narrative design.
