The folk clay sculptures of the Guanzhong region of Shaanxi have a unique artistic charm,rooted in the production life and folk culture of the people,and reflecting the aesthetic awareness and spiritual life of the people of all periods.However,along with the development of the times,folk culture has gradually been forgotten and people’s aesthetics have changed,and the art of folk clay sculpture in the Guanzhong region has been affected by the impact of artworks of the new era,and its inheritance and development have been greatly affected.This paper takes the folk art of clay sculpture in the Guanzhong region as the object of study.Due to the different development and artistic characteristics of each stage,the types of clay sculptures include toys for children,funerary clay sculptures(terracotta figurines)in the form of bright objects,and clay sculptures of deities for human appreciation and worship.The thesis also focuses on the historical and cultural inheritance of clay sculpture in the Guanzhong region.At the same time,the thesis focuses on the development and inheritance of the existing clay sculptures in the Guanzhong region,and explores how to continue the inheritance of this folk art in the context of modern culture,with the intention of arousing people’s attention and love for folk art.The thesis is divided into six parts:The first part is the introduction,which introduces the background of this paper,analyses the current research results on the folk clay sculpture art in the Guanzhong region of Shaanxi,and draws the significance and innovation points of this paper from them.The second part explains the geographical scope of Guanzhong,the unique natural conditions,the unique historical background and the folk culture of Guanzhong,and prepares the background for a more in-depth analysis of the development of folk clay sculpture art in Guanzhong,Shaanxi Province,in different periods.The third part traces the roots of the art through the prehistoric artefacts of the Guanzhong region,showing that the conditions and aesthetic awareness of clay sculpture were present in the Guanzhong region as early as the prehistoric period.The fourth section divides the development of folk clay sculpture into two stages:the agricultural era and the industrial era,and explores how the art of clay sculpture has changed in form,subject matter,aesthetics,style and function in different aesthetic,folklore contexts and historical contexts.The fifth part firstly examines the current situation of the inheritance of folk clay sculpture in the Guanzhong region and analyses the difficulties in the process of inheritance;secondly,it presents its own understanding and views on the inheritance of clay sculpture art,putting forward ideas from the aspects of inheritance and innovation of the body,improving the inheritance method,improving the industrial development mode and improving the cultural ecological environment.The sixth part is the conclusion,which summarises the research results and shortcomings of this paper and presents the outlook on the future development of clay sculpture art.
