Ernst Jünger’s philosophical thought had a great influence on his time and modern philosophical thought, and technical thought occupies a very important position in his total philosophical thought. However, his philosophy of technology has not been studied by any scholars in the academic field,so the author ventures to make a simple sorting out.Ernst Jünger’s technical thought originated from his experience in the war,and the purpose of proposing technical thought was to solve the sharp social contradictions at that time. These contradictions also exist in our present society to a greater or lesser extent,so it is also necessary to further sort out Ernst Jünger’s technical thought. This paper is divided into four chapters: in the first chapter, the background of Ernst Jünger’s theory of technology is explained.First of all,I trace the etymology of the word "technology" and conclude that technology has two meanings in ancient Greece, namely, skill and art. Then,a brief overview of the technical concepts of previous philosophers such as Plato,Aristotle and Nietzsche is given to introduce Ernst Jünger’s technical thought. In the second chapter, the reasons for the direct formation of Ernst Jünger’s technical thought and its connotations are presented.Ernst Jünger’s technical thought was directly born out of his own experience of war,and the experience of facing the dangers of war and technology directly led to the formation of his technical thought. Then the author further elaborates the connotation of his technological thought, pointing out that technology is two-sided,a source of power, its essence is the way the form of labor mobilizes the world, and its ultimate task, the most fundamental purpose,is to achieve domination. In the third chapter, the characteristics of Ernst Jünger’s theory of technology and a further reflection on technology are mainly explained. It is first of all a non-purposive technology contrary to the secular sense;it is not an instrument of development, technology has its own developmental process. Then,on this basis, technology is also non-progressivist.Because technology itself is not infinite in its development,no technological tool has eternity;secondly, because the space in which we live is not a realm of infinite possibilities, technology is not progressivist.Ernst Jünger further points out that the development of technology ends when it has acquired its own precision and clarity, that is,when it has reached the state of simplicity, and this process is a process of development from imperfection to perfection. Finally, the reflection on Ernst Jünger’s technology problem leads to Ernst Jünger reflection on nihilism and the way to overcome nihilism.According to Ernst Jünger,in this age of technology, all people and things are put into mobilization and transformed into mobilized energy. In the face of technology, everything loses its meaning, and this must lead to nihilism. If one wants to overcome nihilism, then one has to return to oneself, and only after gaining personal freedom can one find a way to overcome nihilism. In the last chapter of this paper, the author focuses on the influence and contemporary significance of Ernst Jünger’s technical thought on Heidegger. He influenced not only the analysis of the technical age in Heidegger’s later works, but also Heidegger’s thinking about the concepts of will, work and form. And,Ernst Jünger saw the greatest crisis of that era,the technological crisis, which still exists in our time, and he tried to find a solution to this crisis by overcoming nihilism through individual freedom, but this method obviously did not succeed. The purpose of this paper is to explore Ernst Jünger’s ideas in order to understand technology itself more clearly and precisely, and to treat technology more rationally while recognizing it,so that technology can develop in the direction of truly benefiting the all-round development of human beings, and then realize the harmony of all things. |
