An Internship Report On The Chongqing Publicity Video Translation Project At Translation And Interpreting Center Of The Foreign Affairs Office Of The Chongqing Municipal Government

This is a translation internship report.Based on the work experience as a full-time translator in the Translation and Interpreting Center of Chongqing Municipal Foreign Affairs Office,the author of this report introduces extensively the responsibilities undertaken in the translation project as well as the difficulties,including representation of literariness in ST,logic clarity,etc.and puts forward corresponding solutions according to the expressing habits of target text readers.With the Translation Competence Evaluation Grade Standard of China(2022)newly released by the China International Communications Group(CICG)as reference,this report discusses the definition of translators’ capabilities,and summarizes the competencies that translators and proofreaders should have to respond to the call of the New Era and meet the requirements of the industry.Prioritizing the effectiveness of cultural communication and the acceptability of the target audience for TT,this project emphasizes “target-reader orientation” and proposes the concept of “application-oriented literary translation” which means translators should approach the target audience’s thinking and abandon flashy words and expressions.Combined with the Multi-Modal theory,methods like extension,paraphrasing and simplification are applied for linguistic conciseness and vividness.In addition,translators must be all-round developed,mastering capabilities of communication,searching,cross-cultural interaction,proofreading,CAT operation,professional quality and the capability to impart their knowledge and experience to younger peers apart from linguistic capability.Committed to integrating diversified professional translation capabilities into a unified system,translators should contribute their share to the development of the translation industry.
