Abstract/Summary:
This is a report on the translation of Chapters 2 and 3 of The End of Genetics:Designing Humanity’s DNA,written by David B.Goldstein.This report consists of five parts: the meaning of the translation project, analysis of the original text, the guiding theory, case analysis and conclusion. The original text starts with the genetic technology, genetic laws and controversies related to the genetic field, and points out that human beings can’t use genetic engineering to change the genome of offspring blindly. The original text belongs to the informative text, which contains many genetic-related words and professional and long difficult sentences. In the process of translation, the translation of difficult words and the disassembly, analysis and reconstruction of long and difficult sentences are the difficulties in this translation practice.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory as the translation method, the translator adopts the techniques of amplification, conversion and lexical shift to analysis and translate the difficult words. At the same time, the translator applies inversion, division and reorganization to analyze and translate the long and difficult sentences.
