| This is a report on the translation of Chapters 12 and 13 of Global Warming Science: A Quantitative Introduction to Climate Change and Its Consequences,written by Eli Tziperman.The source text demonstrates a quantitative introduction to climate change and its consequences from the aspects of droughts,precipitation and heat waves.Considering the fact that few books adopt quantitative methods for the study of climate change,though many can be found using other ways,the translator hopes that this translation project can help relevant scholars implement their research from a new perspective by providing a new way of thinking.As a scientific and technical text,the source text features frequent use of nominalization,passive voice and parentheses,which become barriers in translation.Therefore,the translator uses conversion and explicitation for translating nominalization,guided by contextual correlates of adaptability.As for sentences with passive voice,change of agent and semi-marked passive sentences are employed,guided by structural objects of adaptability;as for sentences with parentheses,embedding and restructuring are applied,guided by dynamics of adaptability.This project is expected to shed light on scientific and technical translation concerning meteorology. |
