Analysis Of The Causes Of The Collapse Of The Afghanistan Government In The US-led Afghanistan War In 2021

On August 15,2021,Kabul,the capital of Afghanistan,was breached by Taliban insurgents,which marked the collapse of the democratic government of Afghanistan.Due to various factors,after the Taliban launched a counter-offensive,the Afghanistan government forces and the U.S military forces retreated steadily.Eventually,the Taliban regained control of power.This paper assumes that the rapid collapse of the democratic government of Afghanistan supported by the United States is the result of the interaction between the Afghanistan government’s problems,the Taliban’s military strategies,and the U.S military strategies.This paper analyses the reason from three aspects.First of all,the United States requires the Afghanistan government to absorb local warlords and powerful figures into the newly established government,which left lurking peril for the corruption of the Afghanistan government.The unreasonable use of U.S government funds in Afghanistan has further exacerbated the corruption problem.Meanwhile,the Afghanistan National Security Forces(ANSF)supported by the U.S.military forces also had corruption problem,and they retreated quickly in the face of the Taliban’s strong offensive.Secondly,Taliban took advantage of the domestic terrain advantages to carry out guerrilla warfare.After summarizing the lessons of the failure of the previous “Urban Warfare” against the U.S.military forces,they revised their military strategies to counterattack the U.S military forces and its allies.Taliban militants also infiltrated the ANSF,undermining the trust between the U.S military forces and the Afghanistan government forces.The Taliban was supported financially and technically by Al-Qaeda and the Gulf countries,which was conducive to the Taliban’s counterattack against the U.S military forces and Afghanistan government forces.Finally,the U.S.government’s obscure military operation in Afghanistan has left Afghanistan with numerous problems.During the battle with the Taliban,the U.S.military forces caused a large number of innocent civilian deaths,which further aggravated the Afghanistan civilians’ dissatisfaction with the U.S.military forces,driving them to support the Taliban.The “Light Footprint” strategy adopted by the U.S military forces caused them contend with the Taliban difficultly for insufficient personnel.Meanwhile,there were differences between the United States and NATO and various departments within the United States on the Afghanistan issues,which also fueled the Taliban insurgents to accelerate the process of the collapse of the Afghanistan governmentIn the name of anti-terrorism,the United States unilaterally launched the war in Afghanistan in 2001,forcibly intervening in Afghanistan domestic affairs,and supporting a puppet regime to control Central Asia,and was forced to withdraw its troops hastily in the end.The war in Afghanistan to a large extent originated from the unilateralism diplomatic thought held by the U.S government for a long time,and it is also a typical feature of unilateralism.However,in 2021,the speedy conquering of Kabul by Taliban,the capital of Afghanistan,which symbolized the collapse of the democratic government established by the western countries led by the United State.The Afghanistan War was initiated by the United States and ended with the withdrawal of U.S troops,which demonstrated the failure of the “Hegemonism” of the United States foreign policy in Afghanistan.
