(1)Academic burnout is a problem that cannot be ignored in the learning process, and it is a very common phenomenon in the learning stage.Junior high school students are at a turning point in their physical and mental development. On the one hand, their sense of subjectivity is gradually awakening, and they are eager to make their own decisions in everything, but their ability to solve problems independently is not yet mature. However, inappropriate comparisons can sometimes lead to negative emotions and impact on students’ self-confidence.Junior high school is a critical period for students to develop their core self-evaluation and self-control.If students often adopt poor social comparisons in their academic career and fail to understand their own position correctly during this period,it will bring potential dangers to their physical and mental development and personality building. Therefore, this study will focus on the relationship between academic social comparison and academic burnout among junior high school students, and examine the effects of core self-evaluation and self-control as mediating variables on academic burnout, with the aim of exploring the mechanisms underlying academic social comparison and academic burnout and reducing the level of academic burnout among junior high school students.(2)This study used the Secondary School Students’ Academic Social Comparison Scale, the Secondary School Students’ Core Self-Evaluation Scale, the Secondary School Students’ Self-Control Ability Questionnaire, and the Adolescent Academic Burnout Scale to investigate the relationship between academic social comparison, academic burnout, core self-evaluation and self-control among junior high school students in a total of five schools in Guizhou and Hunan.SPSS 25.0 was used to analyse the data and the findings were as follows.(3)There are significant differences in junior high school students’ academic social comparison, academic burnout, core self-evaluation,and self-control among grades; In addition, there are significant differences in academic social comparison in whether there are only children or not,and significant differences in core self-evaluation in gender;(2)There is a positive correlation between academic social comparison and academic burnout among junior high school students, while there is a negative correlation between core self-evaluation and self-control;There is a positive correlation between core self-evaluation and self-control;(3)The academic social comparison of junior high school students positively predicts the level of academic burnout, while the level of academic burnout of junior high school students negatively predicts self-control,and positively predicts core self-evaluation;(4)Core self-evaluation and self-control play a mediating role between academic social comparison and academic burnout among junior high school students, and core self-evaluation and self-control play a chain mediating role between the two. |
