A Report On E-C Translation Of Popular Science Texts In Artificial Intelligence

The translation practice report is derived from the internship project that the author participated in.The main task is the E-C translation of popular science texts in the field of Artificial Intelligence,which involves knowledge learning and practical application in this domain,covering machine learning,natural language processing and computer vision.The report takes Eco-translatology as the theoretical framework,and explores popular science translation in AI from linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions based on the distinguished characteristics of popular science texts.On the premise of transmitting information effectively,this paper strives to surmount the language barriers,bridge the cultural differences,and realize the communicative purpose of popular science translation to the greatest extent.First,in terms of linguistic dimension,there are two levels of adaptive selection and transformation.One is at the lexical level.In view of professional terms and expressions involved in the source text,one-for-one translation and extension are adopted to convey the scientific and technological connotation of the text.The other is at the sentence level.Translation methods are tailored for sentences with different patterns,and the rendering of passive sentences and long sentences is dealt with by conversion and reconstruction in an effort to achieve the best adaptive transformation.Second,with regard to cultural dimension,targeted at the interpretation of cultural differences between Chinese and English,free translation,idiomatic translation and substitution are applied to make the target text conform to the cultural environment of the target language,so that readers can fully understand and accept the content.Third,in respect of communicative dimension,explicitation,amplification and omission are employed to solve the problems of ambiguous,insufficient and redundant information in the translated text respectively,with a view to improving the communicative effect of popular science texts.On the basis of translation practice,this report focuses on the translation of popular science texts in the field of AI from the perspective of Eco-translatology,and puts forward specific translation methods and techniques by comparing the initial translation and the final translation.It can be served as reference for the research in related fields.
