Global water security is a growing problem that poses a serious challenge to the development of human society. The book Water Security,Conflict and Cooperation in Peri-Urban South Asia explores the impact of urbanization on water security in peri-urban South Asia, and puts forward some appropriate measures, which has certain reference significance to the study of water security. This report selects Chapters 5-6 of the book Water Security,Conflict and Cooperation in Peri-Urban South Asia as its translation material.Guided by Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory, the author mainly analyzes some translation cases at lexical, syntactic and textual levels, and summarizes translation strategies and methods employed. At the lexical level, translation methods of amplification, the choice of meanings and the transformation of part of speech are used to ensure accurate expression of the original text.At the syntactic level, the change of voices and sequencing adjustment are used to make the version faithful and rigorous. At the textual level, cohesive devices of reference, ellipsis, substitution, and conjunction are used to ensure semantic coherence of the translation.Through this translation practice, the author has a deeper understanding of informative texts and learns to flexibly use methods and strategies in the process of translation. It is hoped that the report can provide some references for the translation of literature on water security.
