With the rapid development of science and technology as well as the expansion of foreign academic exchanges,it has become increasingly important to introduce to the outside world the sci-tech developments and achievements of our country. As an important part of EST,mechanical engineering English is widely noticed and highly valued by the academic circle. With the extensive use of professional vocabulary, various sentence patterns and logical discourse, mechanical engineering English translation involves the combination of reading habits in both source language and the target language so as to achieve precise translation version and produce the same response from both source and target readers. In this report, three mechanical engineering papers on wrinkling in thin-walled parts are taken as the research materials and the translation process is described in detail.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, the translation strategies are discussed at lexical, syntactic and textual levels. The translation report first introduces the project source, project requirements, the quality and features of the source text;secondly, the whole process of translating, including preparations before translation, the selection of translation tools, translation plan implementation and the quality assurance are explained in detail.Nina's functional equivalence theory is applied to analyze the problems in the process of translation at lexical, syntactic and discourse levels, including professional mechanical vocabulary, clauses, passive voice and mechanical drawing. Finally, the translator makes a summary and reflection on the whole process of translation.Functional equivalence theory gives priority to semantics rather than the form of language and focuses on the needs of the target readers in translation. The translation practice shows that functional equivalence has a positive role in improving the translation quality of EST and that a translator, after receiving the entrust, has to do sufficient analyses before translation and to employ appropriate translation methods to accomplish the task and assure the translation quality.
