This paper,based on the research method of grounded theory,obtained the original data by interviewing Chinese postgraduates majoring in MTCSOL in Q University,and the qualitative analysis software NVivo was used to conduct open coding,principal encoding and selective coding analysis of the original data,so as to explore the factors and processes affecting the selection of MTCSOL in Q University.Firstly,this paper extracted 24 main categories of influencing factors through coding analysis of interview materials,and classified them into direct and indirect factors based on the thinking process of Chinese postgraduate students.Direct influencing factors are directly related to major selection,including “employment prospects” and “interest and major matching”,a total of seven factors;The indirect influencing factors include the influencing factors of postgraduate entrance examination and the institution selection.Eight factors are related to postgraduate entrance examination,such as “others’ influence” and “avoiding work”.The influencing factors of school choice include six factors,such as “strength of institution”and “Q city”.On this basis,through the qualitative analysis software NVivo,“employment prospects”,“high probability of admitting” and other six factors are the most important factors in major selection.Then,through the analysis of the influencing factors of core coding,it is found that the influencing factors of major selection are also divided into primary,secondary and sequential.The major selection is a dynamic process of constant evolution.Candidates with different backgrounds and experiences have different influencing factors and processes in different stages of major selection,and the push-pull effects of different influencing factors are also different.Based on the push-pull theory and combined with the results of coding analysis,this paper discusses the influencing factors and processes of major selection of students with different backgrounds from the perspectives of different professional backgrounds and work experience,and explores the evolution process of influencing factors of the selection of MTCSOL.Finally,based on the influence factors of major selection and institution selection,this paper puts forward some suggestions on the MTCSOL enrollment training and students’ major application in Q University respectively.This paper hopes to provide reference for MTCSOL enrollment,major construction and students’ major selection.
