| At a time when international Chinese language education is booming,the study of Chinese language teaching materials in China has been intensifying,but the study of classical teaching materials is not yet sufficient.Yuen Ren Chao is the originator of teaching Chinese as a foreign language in China,and Mandarin Primer is the first textbook he wrote on spoken Chinese as a foreign language,which embodies many teaching ideas and concepts that are of guidance to both teaching theory and teaching practice.This study consists of four parts.The first chapter is an introduction,including the background and significance of the topic,the current situation of the study and the research methodology;the second chapter discusses the background of Yuen Ren Chao’s thinking on teaching Chinese as a foreign language from the theoretical and practical perspectives;the third chapter analyzes Yuen Ren Chao’s thinking on teaching Chinese as a foreign language based on the Introduction to the Chinese Language,including the following eight teaching principles:(1)the "language first,then text" model;(2)the advocacy of learning a "living" language;(3)the importance of the frequency of language learning in actual use;(4)the sequential nature of language learning;(5)the contrast of languages;and(6)the importance of language learning."(2)the model of "living" language learning;(3)the importance of the frequency of language use in practice;(4)the sequential nature of language learning;(5)the principle of comparative analysis;(6)the integration of cultural perspectives in teaching,(7)emphasis on playing the leading role of teachers;(8)emphasis on type of writing and teaching of spoken language,and the nature and purpose,content and practice of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Chapter 4 analyses the significance and influence of Yuen Ren Chao’s teaching of Chinese as a foreign language,including its theoretical and instructional significance,as well as its influence at home and abroad;Chapter 5 provides concluding remarks,summarising the previous article and briefly discussing the shortcomings of this paper.The study of this paper will provide a more intuitive understanding of the concrete embodiment of Yuen Ren Chao’s ideas on teaching Chinese as a foreign language,and at the same time allow for the selection of new methods and perspectives from his research on Chinese language and teaching,providing theoretical and methodological guidance for future Chinese language teaching. |
