A Report On The C-E Translation Of Zhong Guo Wen Hua De Xing Ge (Chapters 2-3) Under The Guidance Of Communicative Translation Theory

Zhong Guo Wen Hua De Xing Ge is authored by Liang Xiaosheng,a famous contemporary Chinese writer.It is a book of reading notes and thinking about traditional Chinese culture.The book expresses the author’s thoughts and views on traditional Chinese culture,which is of great significance for people to understand Chinese culture and form cultural values.Meanwhile,the selection of this two chapters of the book for translation is conducive to a greater understanding of traditional Chinese culture by the target text readers,and to the further promotion of Chinese traditional culture.The report is a translation practice of Zhong Guo Wen Hua De Xing Ge(Chapters 2-3)under the guidance of Mewmark’s communicative translation theory.Communicative translation theory focuses on the target text readers,requiring the translator to convey information based on the language features and historical and cultural customs of target text,rather than just faithfully reproducing the semantic meaning of the source text.The language features of the source text at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels are analyzed in the report.At the lexical level,official titles,culture-loaded words and four-character expressions are presented in the source text,which shows the unique charm of Chinese.At the syntactic level,Chinese common sayings,non-subject sentences and subordinate complex sentences are included.The textual level includes cohesion between sentences and paragraphs.Chinese cultural texts are expressed with great cultural characteristics,and a variety of translation methods and translation techniques are used in the translation.At the lexical level,paraphrase,literal translation with annotation and conversion are adopted to better convey the information of the source text.At the syntactic level,shift,restructuring,and division are adopted to make the translation more fluent and thus improve readability of the target text.At the textual level,cohesive devices such as reference,ellipsis and translation method logic reshuffling are adopted to achieve coherence of the target text.Through translation practice,it is found that communicative translation theory can be well applied to the translation of cultural texts.This report provides some references for future studies of English translation of cultural texts.
