An Investigation Of "Estimation" Functional Item In International Chinese Language Education

This paper selects the sentences expressing the function of "estimation" in the TV series "Family with Children(Part 1)" as the main corpus,and compares them with the"Functional Item List" in the "Syllabus for Long-term Chinese Language Learning for Foreign Students in Colleges and Universities" published by Center for Language Education and Cooperation(The former Office of the Leading Group for the International Promotion of Chinese Language in China).This paper compares expressions of the"estimation" function,and selects the ones with the highest frequency as research objects,mainly including "it appears ","be afraid of","perhaps","maybe","probably" and "maybe".This paper analyzes and studies these expressions from the two aspects of form and semantics by combining the sentences expressing the function of "estimation" in the CCL corpus and the BCC corpus." The specific context of the "estimation" function in the TV series "Family with Children",so as to draw the difference between the different expressions.Firstly,this study found that the main differences between these expressions are in semantics."It appears" mainly means estimation based on objective conditions;" be afraid of " mainly means estimation with worry;"may" and "maybe" indicate an uncertain estimate;"probably" is mostly used for estimating quantity and a more positive estimate of the situation;"maybe" means estimating in an uncertain tone.Secondly,there are also differences in the degree of subjectivity and the degree of certainty between semantics and form,which are analyzed in detail in this paper combined with the corpus.Finally,according to the formal and semantic analysis of the expression of the function of "estimation",it proposes teaching suggestions for the function of "estimation" in International Chinese Language Education,and designs a specific teaching plan with "approximately" as an example according to the teaching suggestions.
