The number of self-documentaries is significantly increasing in recent years,and their dissemination channels are becoming increasingly diverse,which gradually attracting more and more public attentions and discussions.As self-documentaries are about the persons who they know,such as themselves and their families and friends,the personal characteristics are more distinct.Self-documentaries have brought the freedom of expression to the forefront,turning the camera on individuals to reveal their true private feelings,desires,and motivations.The creation of self-documentary aims to break free from the constraints of traditional national and collective concepts,and to reclaim one’s life and emotions into a narrative from one’s own life experiences.In addition,it presents some of the social issues with microscopic individual experiences,which also strengthens humanistic values and emotional concerns.To study the uniqueness and regularity of the creation strategy of self-documentaries,this thesis explores the uniqueness from the perspective of film and television aesthetics.The narrative theory and some views of sociology are utilized,and the excellent self-documentaries of recent years,such as "Four Springs","Small Talk" are discussed and combined with the creation practice of the author’s graduation work "My Home".This thesis contains five chapters in total.The first chapter is the introduction,in this part the research status of self-documentary is compared and the excellent self-documentary works are listed.The second chapter traces the definition and origin of self-documentary,the development of self-documentary in China and abroad are discussed,and the main creative characteristics in the light of recent self-documentary are summarized.In chapter 3,the uniqueness of the narrative style of self-documentary texts are provided.The narrative methods according to emotional logic of time and immersive spatial construction are mainly discussed.The authorial video style in self-documentary is demonstrated in chapter 4 from three perspectives: the transformation of the creator’s multiple points of emphasis,personalized visual presentation,and subjective aural construction.At last,the empathic public expressions in private documentaries are explored in Chapter 5,which are specifically and respectively analyzed in terms of public issues,humanistic values,and emotional concerns.This thesis not only attempts to provide video material and theoretical basis in the field of self-documentaries,but also to promote self-documentaries taking on a new life in contemporary China and becoming a unique and attractive artistic genre in documentaries. |
