| Focusing on the 1705 publication of the East India Company’s Ambonian merchant Georg Eberhard Rumpf’s work on natural history,D’Amboinsche Rariteitkamer,the thesis places it within the cultural tradition of natural history studies and Nature collecting from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries.By combing the publication history of the 1705 edition of D’Amboinsche Rariteitkamer,the author examines the transformation of the nature of books from "Curiosity of Cabinet" to books on the history of science.On the other hand,in the process of combing the tradition of scientific natural history illustrations,writer explains the illustration layout of D’Amboinsche Rariteitkamer and printmaking art language which inherited.By specifically analyzing the "Nautilus" and "Paper Nautilus" illustrations in the second volume,and analyzes watercolor manuscripts and Rumpf’s writing patterns,the author discusses the natural order embodied in D’Amboinsche Rariteitkamer and the "curiosity" and the production of natural knowledge in the 18 th century.Finally,writer will focus on the modern significance of D’Amboinsche Rariteitkame,which,in addition to its influence on the specific context of Linnaeus and the natural history of his time,also sheds light on anthropological and ethnographic investigations. |
