This paper uses H-O theory as an analytical tool to enter into the study of the history of international trade in modern China.Starting from the assumption of the upper premise, this paper discusses the premise implied by the H-O model from the perspective of the total supply and demand economic situation, and finds that neoclassical economics is based on the premise of supply-constrained economy, and the upper-level premise implicit in H-O theory is applicable to the supply-constrained economic situation. At the same time, the lower premise of H-O theory is discussed, and it is concluded that H-O theory implies two origin problems of international trade: "what to trade"-exporting products of rich production factors in the country and importing products of scarce production factors in the country;"Transaction partner"-a transaction with a country that complements the factor endowment.Secondly, the structure of China’s import and export trade goods is analyzed, and on the basis of determining that the total supply and demand situation of modern China is a supply-constrained economy, the relationship between the structure of modern China’s import and export trade goods is constructed in line with the H-O theory, and it is found that the quotient value of the two is always greater than one, that is,the structure of modern China’s import and export trade goods is in line with the H-O theory. It answers the first two original questions of modern China in international trade: first, what to trade-modern China’s international market should export labor-intensive products and import capital-intensive products; The second is the trading target, modern China, which deals with capital-intensive countries in the international market. Finally, from the perspective of trade flow, the third origin problem of modern China’s international trade-"how much transactions" is analyzed. The previous research on China’s import trade flow in modern times was not based on the general situation of supply-constrained economy, but more on demand factors. This paper considers the introduction of the core explanatory variable of the export function, namely domestic output(GDP),from the supply side from 1887 to 1936.After analyzing the factors affecting China’s import and export trade in modern times, this paper argues that China’s export trade is affected by the simultaneous effects of China’s GDP,foreign GDP index and export price index.China’s import trade is affected by the simultaneous effect of total exports, foreign direct investment in China, and import tariffs.
