The Notes of Yuewei Thatched Cottage" is a note-type novel created by Ji Yun,a scholar of the Qing Dynasty,in his later years.It aims to preach,teach,reflect the world,and punish the world.Many chapters of "Yuewei Thatched Cottage Notes" use juxtaposition narration.This thesis uses Western juxtaposition narration theory to analyze the plot,characters,and themes of "Yuewei Thatched Cottage Notes",and on this basis,explores the narrative effect of juxtaposition narration in "Yuewei Thatched Cottage Notes",and then summarize the narrative characteristics of "Yuewei Caotang Notes" from the perspective of juxtaposition narrative..The introduction part of the thesis explains the purpose and significance of juxtaposition narration in "Yuewei Caotang Notes",and combs relevant research on juxtaposition narration in "Yuewei Caotang Notes".The main body of this thesis consists of the following four chapters:The first chapter analyzes the juxtaposition of plots in "Yuewei Caotang Notes".The juxtaposition of plots can be divided into four situations: juxtaposition of narrative perspectives,juxtaposition of similar types,juxtaposition of different types,and juxtaposition of argumentation.Each situation achieves different narrative effects:juxtaposition of narrative perspectives makes the story more tortuous,increasing readers’ interest and experience in reading;Juxtaposition of the same and different types in response reference enhances the main idea;Comment juxtaposition complements narration,reflects the character’s position,and so on.The second chapter analyzes the juxtaposition of characters in "Yuewei Caotang Notes".The juxtaposition of characters can be divided into three situations:juxtaposition of personality characters,juxtaposition of character relationships,and juxtaposition of virtual and real characters.Each situation achieves different narrative goals: juxtaposition of personality characters deepens character images;Juxtaposition of character relationships explains social ethics;The juxtaposition of virtual and real characters reveals the changes in people’s hearts.The third chapter analyzes the juxtaposition of themes in "Yuewei Caotang Notes".The juxtaposition of themes can be divided into the juxtaposition of sentiment and reason and the juxtaposition of truth and falsehood.The juxtaposition of sentiment and reason reflects social contradictions,and the juxtaposition of truth and falsehood criticizes the human heart.The fourth chapter analyzes the narrative characteristics of "Yuewei Caotang Notes" from the perspective of juxtaposition.The main narrative characteristics are the unity of narrative space and narrative structure,representing the harmonious and unified beauty of the novel.
