Abstract/Summary:
Adolescence, usually defined as the age of 12 to 18,is a critical stage in an individual’s physical and mental development,as well as a transitional period from a child to an adult. At this stage, teenagers are experiencing great physical and psychological changes and have a high incidence of non-suicidal self-injury.Non-suicidal self-injury behavior, referred to as self-injury behavior, refers to direct, intentional or repeated self-injury without suicidal intent, but not fatal or less fatal behavior. As a global public health problem,self-injury has been widely concerned in the field of mental health, and the problem of adolescent self-injury is the focus of social attention.Nssi is common among adolescents, which may cause economic damage, interpersonal relationship damage and academic decline of adolescents at a minor level, and may further induce adolescent suicide behavior at a serious level.In-depth research on NSSI among adolescents is of great significance to ensure the healthy development of adolescents. In addition, adolescence is a period of emotional storm, emotion has become one of the core factors affecting adolescents’ NSSI behavior.Adolescents conduct NSSI to a large extent in order to regulate negative emotions, but also reflects the failure of negative emotion regulation results. In this case,if adolescents’ emotional regulation ability is well developed, can adolescents’ NSSI be alleviated? In view of this,it is of great significance to explore the formation and influencing factors of adolescent NSSI,as well as the relationship between NSSI and emotional regulation for the whole problem of NSSI research and the selection and implementation of intervention measures.Based on the two-dimensional four-function model of NSSI behavior, experience avoidance model and emotion management model, this paper explores the basic characteristics, development trend and heterogeneity of adolescents’ emotional regulation and NSSI behavior, and further explores the common development and change trend of adolescents’ emotional regulation and NSSI behavior. In this study,1214 first-year high school students were selected as the research objects.Based on the central ideas of individuals, the questionnaire of self-injury behavior and the questionnaire of emotional regulation were used to follow up every six months for three times in total. In the first study,a linear growth model and a mixed growth model were constructed to explore the developmental trajectories and heterogeneous developmental subgroups of adolescents’ NSSI.In study 2,a structural equation model and a conditional linear growth model were constructed to investigate the effects of cognitive reappraisal and expression inhibition on adolescents’ NSSI behavior. In study 3,a linear growth model and a mixed growth model were constructed to explore the developmental tracks and heterogeneous developmental subgroups of adolescents’ cognitive reappraisal and expression inhibition. The parallel developmental linear growth model and a dual-process mixed growth model were constructed to test the co-developmental change tracks of adolescents’ cognitive reappraisal and expression inhibition and their association with heterogeneous developmental subgroups. The main results of this study are as follows:1.Adolescents’ NSSI behavior shows a downward trend, that is,with the growth of adolescents’ age, their NSSI behavior level will gradually decline, and the higher the initial level, the slower the decline rate;2.The developmental and changing trajectory of adolescents’ NSSI behavior can be divided into three different heterogeneous subgroups: "low NSSI-decrease group","high NSSI-slow growth group" and "moderate NSSI-rapid growth group";3.The cognitive reappraisal of adolescents tends to decrease. With the increase of age,the cognitive reappraisal level gradually decreases, and the higher the initial level of cognitive reappraisal, the slower the rate of decline; There are two heterogeneous subgroups in the development of cognitive reappraisal in adolescents: "cognitive reappraisal-increase group" and "cognitive reappraisal-decrease group";4.The expression inhibition of adolescents showed a decreasing trend. With the increase of age,the expression inhibition level gradually decreased, and the higher the initial expression inhibition level, the slower the decline rate; There were three heterogeneous subgroups in the developmental track of expression inhibition in adolescents: "moderate expression inhibition-decrease group","high expression inhibition-increase group" and "low expression inhibition-decrease group";5.The developmental trend between emotional regulation and NSSI in adolescents has a certain degree of cooccurrence, and the heterogeneous subgroup of the common development trajectory is consistent with the heterogeneous subgroup of NSSI in adolescents; The main conclusions of this study are as follows:1.On the whole, adolescents’ NSSI tends to decrease gradually, and there is a significant gender difference.Male adolescents show a higher level of NSSI than female adolescents, and there are three heterogeneous development subgroups with different development trends.2.The overall cognitive reappraisal and expression inhibition of adolescents showed a gradually decreasing trend, and the gender difference was not significant.Male adolescents showed a higher level of expression inhibition than female adolescents, and the change trend of cognitive reappraisal of adolescents presented two heterogeneous subgroups, and the change trend of expression inhibition of adolescents presented three heterogeneous subgroups.3.Adolescents’ emotional regulation has a significant impact on NSSI behavior.Specifically, cognitive reappraisal significantly negatively predicts NSSI behavior, while expression inhibition significantly positively predicts NSSI behavior.4.Cognitive reappraisal, expression inhibition and self-injury behavior of adolescents have a co-occurring trend of development.
